WOODCARVING

Hand carving is a skill that is disappearing from the American craft scene.  With the advent of laser engravers and computer assisted routers, mass-reproduced machine carvings have become the latest trend.  Soon, hand carvers will no longer be necessary to make the master carvings.  Virtual masters will be generated by the computer as well.  Frankly, we are quite proud of the fact that our carvings are done by hand and that every single one is completely unique.  When a client asks us to duplicate something he has seen in our portfolio, we may use patterns or stencils to cut the wood, but the pieces are completely sculpted by hand.  We offer this work on doors, mantles, corbels, columns, frames, and other wood accents.

Depending on the look that we wish to achieve, we may use incise carving, bas relief carving, or intarsia.   The art may be carved directly into the substrate, applied to the surface, or inlaid.  All combinations of these techniques are possible, and each assists us in generating a unique look.
